Welcome!
The Japan Community of Queensland Inc (JCQ) welcomes membership applications from anyone who supports the association’s aims and objectives.
The dominant objects of JCQ are advancing mental health and preventing and relieving social isolation with the Japanese community and the broader community by bringing people together at a physical location.
Learning about Indigenous People's History
We learn about the history of Australia and provide information to contribute to and integrate into society as immigrants. We aim to prevent social isolation by making friends across generations and races.
Coffee with a Cop
We hold consultation sessions in cooperation with the police to address issues faced by people living in QLD. We assist in resolving concerns related to community interactions, domestic violence, fraud, and alleviating anxieties resulting from differences in living between Japan and Australia.
Support for Japanese Mental Well-being
We support Japanese film festivals and events organized by the Japanese government and related organisations, creating spaces for belonging and socializing, and contributing to the prevention of social and psychological isolation.
The Power Nadeshiko Women's Empowerment Project aims to empower and educate the community to address gender-based violence. With a focus on culturally and linguistically diverse communities, we want to encourage community discussion and education through multilingual learning resources and in-person events. In collaboration with support service providers and professionals, we strive to break down the barriers in accessing support services and connect the community with the pathways to support. Over the last two years, we have created informational videos in English and Japanese, and hosted multilingual events across Brisbane, the Gold Coast and Cairns. We are currently working to expand our resources to other language groups and regions.
